Delhi Schools Closed due to Air Pollution: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has made an announcement confirming closure of schools in the national capital for a week due to hazardous levels of air pollution. The decision to close down schools in Delhi and National Capital Area has been taken by the Delhi Government keeping in mind the continuous rising air pollution levels, which are now in hazardous levels. While the schools will remain closed for physical classes, online classes and virtual education will continue for all the students. In addition to this, Mr Kejriwal has also announced a slew of measures including some various emergency solutions with the aim of the betterment of the air quality in the national capital.

Emergency Measures to curb in Air Pollution

The decision to close down schools in Delhi was taken by the Delhi Government at an emergency meet held today. At the emergency meeting, various measures to control air pollution in the city-state were discussed. Following the same, Delhi CM made the announcement about closure of schools. The Chief Minister also told the reporters that the government would also be presenting a proposal for lockdown. For the coming week, the state government has also banned all construction activities from 14th to 17th November 2021. Another emergency measure that has been implemented by the state government is to allow government officials to work from their homes.

Decision Following SC comment in Delhi’s Air Pollution

Many experts have also hinted at the Delhi Government’s decision about closing down schools due to air pollution as a reactionary measure to the recent remark by the Supreme Court. Recently, during a hearing, Justice DY Chandrachud had mentioned that with Delhi Government reopening schools now despite the rising air pollution levels. Justice Chandrachud also noted that "You have opened all schools 2 weeks back, you are now witnessing children going to school and exposing their lungs & life to grave pollutants.

Air Pollution due to Stubble Burning

While addressing the press meet on Delhi’s air pollutions and the measures that are being taken by the state government, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also noted that the primary reason for the deteriorating air quality of NCR was stubble burning in the neighbouring states. In order to reduce the pollution, the Chief Minister has called upon all stake holders to work together and combat the pollution.
