The Aadhaar card is no longer an identity proof which you keep in your wallet. It is now an essential government document for all your needs that range from opening a bank account to getting a SIM card, from school admission, to buying property.

Nearly all Indians today have their Aadhaar and millions of people have their Aadhaars in their smartphones. But now the government has made a major change which every Aadhaar user should know.

Is the Old Aadhaar App Shutting Down and Why?

Yes, it is. UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has confirmed that the mAadhaar app will be discontinued and has invited all the people to shift their details to the newly launched Aadhaar app.

The reason is very simple: the old app had limitations. With an increasing adoption of digital identity services throughout India, the demand for a more secure and user-friendly app emerged.

When you were seeking verification on the old mAadhaar app, your complete Aadhaar information was displayed, and this posed a security threat. That's why the new app has been created to overcome that, and provide you with a lot more control over your own information.
