According to reports, students and parents have moved the Supreme Court with a petition against the CBSE board that decided to conduct the upcoming class 10 and 12 Term 1 Examinations in the offline mode. According to the petitioners, given the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the boards must offer a hybrid model for the examinations where students have the option to choose between appearing for the exams offline or online.
The CBSE board has decided to conduct the Class 10 and 12 annual board examinations in the form of term examinations with the first term exams scheduled to be conducted in November-December 2021 while the second term exams are scheduled to be held in March-April 2022.
The exams are being conducted in two terms due to the pandemic as a precaution considering the last exams were cancelled due to the increase in COVID-19 cases and students were promoted based on internal marks and assignments.
Demands for hybrid mode exams
Students have been asking the CBSE board to conduct the exams in the hybrid mode for a long time but the board has however stated that the exams will be conducted in the offline mode only. The board has also ensured that the necessary COVID-19 precautions will be taken during the exams. A certain section of students has however voiced their concerns regarding the board’s decision to conduct the exam offline.
Students scheduled to appear for the Class 10 and 12 board exams have pointed out that they have not been vaccinated against the virus. According to media reports, students have stated that since the Council for Indian School Certificate Exams may conduct the Term 1 exams in the hybrid model, the CBSE should also follow the same and conduct the exams in the same manner.
