CBSE Examination Updates

CBSE Term 1 Exam Update: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is putting in extra efforts to check irregularities and cheating in the upcoming Term 1 Exam. This becomes even more important for this year, as the CBSE Board Exam 2022 is being held in two parts, with the Term 1 Exam being held from respective schools for most of class 10 and class 12 students. To ensure complete transparency and fairness in the examination process, the board is expected to implement a series of measures. As part of the measures deployed to check malpractices, the board plans to deploy advanced data analytics technology to identify ‘at-risk centres. Typically the CBSE Board deploys external observers, flying squads, and use CCTV, as per the usual practice to check cheating in the exams. However, this year, the board plans on using data analytics technology for the same.

Data Analytics to Identify ‘At Risk’ Exam Centres

One of the key measures being implemented for the CBSE Term 1 Exam 2021-22 will include the use of Advanced Data Analytics for identifying cases/centres while there is a high probability of recourse to unfair means during examinations. Earlier, the Board had implemented a pilot project with the same technology for the CTET January 2021 exam in collaboration with Central Square Foundation (CSF) and Play power Labs. As part of the project, based on the data collected from exam centres, the board will try and identify such centres where the chances of malpractices and irregularities are more. At such centres, the board will deploy additional measures to check irregularities and cheating.

Algorithms to Identify suspicious data patterns at Centres

The board has developed an algorithm to identify suspicious data patterns at exam centres and at an individual test taker level as well and based on the analysis results and the algorithm the board has decided that the analysis will also be used for other examinations. Such a measure has been taken under the circumstances of the recently conducted NEET and JEE Main examinations where the National Testing Agency has been facing criticism after repeated cheating cases were reported for the National Level Entrance examinations.

The advanced data analytics which will be used by the board will prevent any irregularities in academic testing across all the major CBSE Administered exams in the country. Based on this the board aims to identify exam centres where the data indicated the existence of malpractice during the exams. After this appropriate measures will also be taken by the board to strengthen the reliability of the exams conducted by the board which include the CTET, 10th and 12th Board examinations etc and stop further malpractices.
