Haryana Govt School Tablet Scheme: 1.85 Lakh Devices Non-Functional, Repair Contracts Delayed
Haryana’s government school tablet programme has stalled as more than 1.85 lakh devices remain non-functional due to delays in finalising repair and maintenance contracts.

Haryana’s digital education programme for government schools has been affected by delays in finalising contracts for the repair and maintenance of tablets distributed to students. More than 1.85 lakh tablets across the state are currently non-functional, according to an education department official.
The issue has left schools without an active mechanism to repair damaged devices, affecting the distribution and use of tablets for digital learning.
Haryana Tablet Programme: What Is The Issue?
The state education department requires four separate tenders to keep the tablet programme operational. These cover mobile internet SIM cards, learning software, device security management and an annual maintenance contract (AMC) for hardware repairs.
So far, only the SIM card tender, costing Rs 19.95 per month, has moved forward. The absence of active repair and maintenance contracts means tablets whose manufacturer warranties have expired cannot be repaired.
Over 1.85 Lakh Tablets Non-Functional
An education department official said more than 85,000 tablets across Haryana have damaged screens, while around one lakh devices are not switching on.
Gurgaon is among the districts affected by the issue. The district received around 33,000 tablets in 2022 for government school students. A teacher said nearly half of the devices are currently non-functional due to cracked screens, dead batteries and system-related problems.
The tablets were distributed to students in Classes 10 and 12, with nodal officers appointed at schools to maintain records. According to a teacher quoted in the report, some devices also developed problems after students bypassed security restrictions to download prohibited applications.
New Academic Session Distribution Affected
Distribution of tablets for the new academic session has also been stalled, with the tender process to address app restrictions and technical issues still pending, the teacher said.
The tablet programme was launched as a Rs 700-crore scheme to provide digital learning support to around five lakh students in Classes 10 to 12.
Meanwhile, the department has received approvals to expedite the pending tenders. Officials expect the contracts to be finalised and the non-functional tablets to be restored soon.
