After an intense season, with MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) winning 5 championship titles, India’s favourite domestic cricket league is back. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 started on March 22, 2024. 

The IPL is the second-richest domestic league in the world, after America’s National Football League (NFL). This T20 cricket league attracts top international players, promising high-octane matches and fierce competition among the franchises. 

The 17th season of the T20 cricket league, organised by the Board of Council for Cricket in India (BCCI) and sponsored by TATA, started on March 22, 2024, with the kickoff match between two of the most beloved teams of the franchise, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

IPL 2024: Latest Updates

  • Ruturaj Gaikwad has replaced MS Dhoni as the captain of CSK.
  • RCB's name has been changed. Now, this beloved team will no longer be called the Royal Challengers "Bangalore," but the Royal Challengers "Bengaluru."
  • Dilshan Madushanka has been replaced by Kwena Maphaka for the Mumbai Indians. 
  • England's Luke Wood has been named as the injured Jason Behrendorff's replacement by the Mumbai Indians (MI). 
  • Harry Brook has withdrawn from the 2024 Indian Premier League due to personal reasons.
  • Lungi Ngidi has been replaced by Jake Fraser-McGurk, who has joined the Delhi Capitals.
  • Devon Conway has been ruled out of the league, and Australian all-rounder Pat Cummins has been made the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad. 
  • Prasidh Krishna will not play in the IPL in 2024.
  • Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the IPL in 2024.
  • Rishabh Pant has been declared fit to participate in the IPL 2024, and he has been made the capital of the Delhi Capitals.
