Assam School Visit Restrictions 2026: Minister Denies Viral WhatsApp Message, Calls Claim Fake

The Assam government has denied reports claiming that restrictions have been imposed on people, including parents and guardians, visiting government schools across the state. The clarification came after a message circulated on WhatsApp and other platforms suggested that visitors would need prior permission to enter school premises.

The Assam Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has described the reports as fake and clarified that people and guardians can continue to visit government schools as usual. The development has come amid recent discussions over school visits and inspections in the state. 

Assam Government Denies School Visit Restrictions

According to the clarification issued by the Assam CMO, there has been no new restriction on visits to government schools. Parents, guardians and members of the public can continue to visit schools under the existing arrangements.

The government rejected claims suggesting that prior permission would now be mandatory for people wishing to enter government school premises. The CMO also warned that appropriate action would be initiated against those spreading what it described as false information about Assam's education system. 

What Did the Viral WhatsApp Message Claim?

A message circulating on WhatsApp reportedly presented a set of alleged instructions concerning entry into government schools.

The viral information claimed that outsiders would not be allowed to enter school campuses without prior permission. It also referred to restrictions concerning activities such as photography and videography inside school premises during school hours.

However, the Assam government has clarified that these claims should not be treated as a new statewide restriction on school visits. Parents and guardians can continue to visit government schools as usual.

I hereby clarify that the School Education Department has not issued any notice or circular restricting anyone from visiting government or provincialised schools. Reports published in a section of the media claiming otherwise are untrue. Guardians and citizens are welcome to visit our schools and offer suggestions. For parents and guardians, the key clarification is that no new permission requirement has been introduced for visiting government schools, according to the Assam CMO.

Unverified WhatsApp messages and social media posts should not be considered official orders.
