Do you know that the word ‘snake’ originated from a Proto-Indo-European word '(s)nēg-o', which meant "to crawl" or 'to creep'? As languages evolved, this word became simpler. It became ‘snaca’, and with time it became snake.

Snakes are long, legless and carnivorous reptiles which belong to the suborder Serpentes. These reptiles are cold-blooded animals, also known as ectothermic amniotes. Their bodies are covered in overlapping scales.

If you look closely, you will notice that snakes do not have eyelids and external ears like other animals. Furthermore, you can find them on almost every continent.

The South American continent is famous for having about 900 snake species. Asia follows with over 700 species. Here’s a catch: this Asian country has the 4th most venomous snakes in the world. Just 1 mg of their toxin can kill a normal person.

The country is China. In this article, we’ll explore the top 3 deadliest snakes there. If you see one, remember: stay calm and freeze.

In southern China, Typhoon Maysak has caused severe weather crises. This is the first tropical cyclone to hit China this year, bringing heavy, continuous rain.

A commercial snake breeding facility in Hengzhou, Guangxi, was severely damaged in this disaster. Around 900+ snakes escaped into the wild all at once.

While most of the snakes are non-venomous, like water snakes and king ratsnakes, the facility also bred dangerous snake species. This included cobras, kraits, and green pit vipers.

Now, these deadly snakes are climbing to higher ground. They're also found in floating debris and even in homes. The rising water has pushed them out of their habitats. According to reports, multiple local villagers have been bitten. Here’s the list of the top 3 deadliest snakes in China:

The krait is the deadliest land snake in all of Asia. This snake is a docile-looking creature that resembles a non-threatening banded rope. Its venom is highly deadly since the bite does not cause any pain in the initial stages. In addition to that, there is no swelling when one is bitten by a krait.

3. Sharp-Nosed Viper

Also referred to as the "hundred pacer" snake, according to the local legends, if you get bitten by this species of snake, you have enough strength to move one hundred feet but then you will collapse.
