Samsung has started telling Galaxy owners through pop up notifications that it will discontinue its Quick Measure app on December 31 2026. This built in Samsung app lets people use their phone camera to check the height of an object, measure distances across a room, or calculate box sizes without carrying a tape measure.
"Service for the Quick Measure app is scheduled to be terminated on 31 December 2026. After this date, new downloads and update support for the existing app will be discontinued," Samsung stated in an official notice displayed inside the app.
Let’s read more about the reason behind Samsung discontinuing Measure app by the end of 2026 hereonwards.
Why is Samsung Dicontinuing Quick Measure App?
There has been no official statement by Samsung regarding the removal of Quick Measure and its associated application AR Doodle.
However, monitoring through technology indicates that very few users open these distinct augmented reality applications on a daily basis.
It takes effort to maintain an independent app every time the Samsung One UI operating system gets updated.

In its announcement notice Samsung added: "We are committed to returning with improved services in the future."
This hints that Samsung might build simple measuring apps directly into the main Galaxy Camera app later on, rather than keeping a separate download.
What Happens to Samsung Galaxy Phones After December 2026?
If you currently have Quick Measure installed on your Samsung Galaxy phone, it won’t disappear off your homescreen when New Year’s Day 2027 rolls around. You’ll be able to access it and use it, but Samsung will no longer be updating its code.
-
In case you buy a new Samsung phone or erase your current device, you cannot download the app again from the Galaxy Store.
When your phone updates to newer versions of Android down the line, Quick Measure might stop working correctly with your camera lens.
Using your Galaxy Watch to trigger camera measurements will no longer receive software support.
Easy Alternatives to Measure Things with Your Samsung Galaxy Phone
Samsung has decided to stop developing its internal measurement app. So Galaxy users who would like to use camera functionality to measure furniture, rooms, or boxes can find several apps available in the Google Play store. Modern Galaxy smartphones have the ability to utilize camera sensors along with AR software from Google for such activities.
-
AR Ruler App: In this case, you may use your camera to measure lengths, surface areas, and three-dimensional spaces by pointing your smartphone's camera at the floor or table.
-
Moasure: One of the better options for measuring large projects as it uses smartphone sensors while moving your phone from one point to another.
-
CamToPlan: Great tool for drawing the floor plans of a room through your screen.
Is Discontinuing Apps A Broader Trend Across Smartphone Brands
Samsung is not the only company making this shift. Google dropped its own standalone Measure app a few years ago for similar reasons. Most phone makers realize that standard users prefer simple camera options rather than downloading separate utilities they only open once or twice a year.
By discontinuing lesser used tools like Quick Measure and AR Doodle Samsung frees up its software engineers to focus on main camera features and phone system updates.
