UPTET Vs Super TET 2026: Key Differences Every Teacher Aspirant Must Know

There are lakhs of candidates who are preparing for the UP teaching jobs and get confused between UPTET and Super TET. Both sound very similar, but both of them serve completely different purposes. The Eligibility Test Candidates Must Clear First is UPTET 2026

The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UP TET) is not a recruitment exam. This test only proves that the candidates are eligible to apply for a teaching job in Uttar Pradesh. Think of this exam as an entry ticket, not the job itself. 

UPTET is conducted by the UP Basic Education Board (UPBEB) and has two papers, Paper 1 for the Primary teachers (Classes 1 to 5) and Paper 2 for Upper Primary teachers (Classes 6 to 8). Once the candidates clear the UPTET, they are issued a certificate, which is valid for a lifetime, so the candidates do not need to clear it again and again.  The UPTET 2026 result was declared on August 26, 2026, on its official website, i.e., upessc.up.gov.in. But clearing this result does not give the candidates a job. It simply opens the door to applying for the real recruitment exam, which is the Super TET.

The Actual Recruitment Exam is Super TET 2026

This is the stage where most of the confusion happens. Super TET, also known as UP STET or UP Special TET, is the exam that actually decides which candidates get the teaching job. It is not just an eligibility test. Super TET is conducted by the UP Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), and only candidates who have cleared the UPTET or the CTET can apply for it. The exam is conducted for around 150 marks and has to be solved in 2 hours and 30 minutes, with no negative marking. There are two separate papers, one for the recruitment of Primary Teachers and the other for the recruitment of the Upper Primary Teachers.

To qualify for the Super TET, the official authorities have a set of qualifying marks that each candidates to score. The qualifying marks are as follows:-

Based on the marks scored in the Super TET and merit rank, the candidate gets selected for the actual teacher post and not just eligibility.

The Difference Between UPTET and Super TET

If there is one thing that the candidates have to remember, it is this one thing: UPTET tells the candidate that they are qualified to become a teacher. Super TET decides if the candidate can actually become one.

No candidate can skip the UPTET and appear directly for the Super TET. The sequence is always UPTET (or CTET) first and then Super TET. Once the candidate is selected through Super TET, the candidate can get appointed as an Assistant Teacher in UP Government schools with a starting pay scale of around Rs 35000 as per the 7th CPC, along with UP-State DA and HRA.
