SSC CGL exam 2017-18: Preparation tips and topics for Non-verbal reasoning

SSC CGL 2017SSC CGL has released its final schedule. All students now must have tightened their seat belts and ready to fly off. Student must be planning out different strategies to clear this exam. Most of them are focused to clear the cut off with best marks. Now, for scoring high you must analyze the difficult and weak areas. If we see the pattern of SSC CGL Prelims exam, each subject is distributed equally having 25 questions carrying 2 marks each. Coming to the easiest section, it is general intelligence. So, to score high you must have command on all its topics.

Looking at the distribution of questions, 80% question came from verbal reasoning and rest 20% questions come from non – verbal reasoning. If student is able to score 18 out of 20 in verbal sections, he should also try to attempt rest part so as to gain 3 to 4 marks more. There are some more miscellaneous topics covered in the section which are image based only. These questions do not require much effort. They just need practice and analyzing skills. You must apply imaginary thinking to solve such questions. Let`s have a look on some tips to clear this section.

  1. Concept learning: Go through the each topic thoroughly. Have a clear understanding of them. In topics Mirror and Water Image and Paper Cutting and Folding; you can experiment them by taking objects. Most of such questions are solved by option elimination technique only. Start rejecting options and choose correct option wisely. So, covering each topic individually is best technique to learning.
  2. Medium of study: To study image based question, visualization power must be good. For this, you must see videos of all such topics. It will also give you tricks to solve such questions.
  3. Practice: Start practicing questions topic wise after getting concept understanding. This will increase your speed as well as power to analyze questions as soon as you encounter the question.
  4. Evaluate you performance by attempting mock tests: Attempt complete mock tests in a time bound schedule. Analyze your performance and identify your weak areas. Then start working on them and increase your accuracy.
  5. Attempt previous year papers: Previous year papers are the virtual image of final paper. SSC`s exam pattern almost remains same. Even Sometimes, it repeats its questions. So, attempting them with proper timeline is an advantage to you.
  6. Make long term goals: The reasoning subject comes in only tier 1 of SSC CGL exam. But it is one of the easiest subject or say, marks scoring subject. And we all know in final marks calculation, prelims marks will be counted too. So, you can increase your marks by gaining in this this subject and this non - verbal section will play an important role in it. So, don’t take it lightly and prepare for this as well.
