    The post of Microbiologist is common at different ministries and departments related to agriculture, environment, health, chemical, food processing, industrial, etc. of the Central Government and State Governments, at various research institutions, government technical institutions, government health programs, at some public sector undertakings, etc. within the country. The appointment on Microbiologist post is done as Group ‘B’ or Group ‘C’ personnel depending upon the rank of appointment.

    Wherever a Microbiologist is posted his duty is to examine the presence of bacteria, virus, protozoa, etc. in various samples according to the specialization and their effect (positive or negative) on human beings and other species. On the basis of findings a Microbiologist prepares a report with all necessary details. In many diseases, the doctors examine the possible diseases to any patient on the basis of Microbiologist’s report. Microbiologist examines genetics deficiencies through developing gene therapy and suggests the possible solutions for the same.

    Eligibility Conditions for Microbiologist

    To become a Microbiologist a candidate needs to have qualified master’s degree (M.Sc. or M.Tech.) in Microbiology or allied subjects from a recognized university or educational institution. For Scientist posts, PhD is required in the areas related to Microbiology. The candidate must have some prior experience in the related areas at any reputed organization.

    Age Limit for Microbiologist

    To become a Microbiologist a candidate’s age must fall into the range of 21 years to 37 years. However, the upper age limit could be 40 years or more at some of the institutions. The reserved category (SC / ST / OBC / PWD/ ExSM) candidates get relaxation in upper age limit according to the rules laid down by the Government.

    Selection Process for Microbiologist

    The selection of candidates for Microbiologist posts is done on the basis of their performance in the Academic Records, Written Exam and Personal Interview. Candidates could be selected on the basis of Academic Records and Personal Interview if the appointment is to be done on contract basis.

    Salary Structure of Microbiologist

    Salary for different posts in the areas of Microbiologist differs according to the Post or Rank of appointment. If the appointment is to be done on contract basis, the candidate is given Rs. 30,000 - 40,000/- or more per month as consolidated salary. If the appointment is on regular basis, the salary could be according to the post and Pay Commission implemented in the organization. Apart from this, various allowances (DA, HRA, etc.) are also given.
