World Heart Day observed globally on 29 September

World Heart Day was observed across the world on 29 September with a theme Heart Choices NOT Hard Choices.

29 September: World Heart Day
World Heart Day was observed across the world on 29 September 2014. The objective of the day is to inform people around the world of the danger of heart disease and stroke.

2014 theme for World Heart Day’s is Heart Choices NOT Hard Choices. The World Health Organization on the occasion said that there is a need to reduce the consumption of salt that is linked to death of people from cardiovascular diseases.


On the other hand, the World Heart Federation members spread the news that at least 80 percent of premature deaths from cardiovascular disease could be avoided of major four risk factors is controlled. The four major risk factors are
• Tobacco use
• Unhealthy diet
• Physical inactivity
• Harmful use of alcohol

World Heart Day in India

On the occasion of the World Heart Day, the Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan appealed the doctors, health workers and NGO activists to work harder to aware people on the dangers of cardiovascular diseases. He said that social mobilization is essential for making public health work.

World Heart Day was founded in 2000 to inform people around the globe that heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading causes of death, claiming 17.3 million lives annually.  

Heart Day is part of an international campaign to spread awareness about heart disease and stroke prevention.
