The office of the Chief Commissioner of Central Excise, Customs and Service Tax celebrated Central Excise Day on (24 Feb) at the Port Kalavani Auditorium, Visakhapatnam on 24 Feb 2010. The Central Excise Department held a free diabetes camp and conducted sports events for the staff and their family members to mark the celebration. The Visakhapatnam Central Excise and Customs Zone unearthed tax evasion in Central Excise and Service Tax to the tune of Rs.101.13 crore and Rs.57.14 crore respectively and made spot recoveries of Rs.28.15 crore. The department was able to recover Rs.64.48 crore of arrears till January 2010.
