Rajahmundry: Major venue for the 2015 Godavari Maha Pushkaram celebrations in Andhra Pradesh.
Rajahmundry was in news in the third week of July 2015 as the Andhra Pradesh Government formed a one-member committee to probe stampede incident that killed 27 people on the first day of Godavari Maha Pushkaram celebrations on 14 July 2015.
The incident occurred on the bathing ghats of the river Godavari.
Rajahmundry is located on the banks of Godavari in East Godavari district of the Andhra Pradesh.
It was chosen as the primary venue for the once in 144 year event as the River Godavari is full in its expanse at this place.
After travelling around 100 km from Rajahmundry, the river merges with the Bay of Bengal at Antarvedi.
