Election Commission of India organized a campaign titled Election Awakening for Women and Youth on 8 March 2014. The campaign aims to raise the number of women voters in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Election Commission also organized a signature campaign at Maitreyi College, where girls took a pledge to vote. Other activities included rallies, street plays, motivational talks on women empowerment etc.
The EC also held camps at various women colleges, Metro stations, polling stations and gender resource centres. Several NGOs and Women’s self-help groups also participated in the campaign. Around 6000 women have applied for enrolment forms in the districts of Delhi and also applied for enrolment as electors of Delhi.
The campaign created awareness about the importance of the election process and their votes and explained how each vote is important for the development of the state.
