India-Portugal signed 11 agreements/MoUs ranging from science and technology, education, anti-terrorism, climate, among others. The signed MoUs will help in enhancing the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

In addition, the two nations also announced a four million euros joint fund to bolster research in science and technology. The fund was announced after in-depth talks between PM Modi and his Portuguese counterpart António Costa on cooperation in areas like counter-terrorism, space, climate studies and start-ups.
The MoUs were signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Portugal on 24 June 2017. Modi is the first Indian prime minister in Portugal on a bilateral visit. At the time of signing of these 11 MoUs, PM Modi was on a three-nation tour, namely Portugal, the US and the Netherlands.

Later in a joint address, Modi and the Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa said the two countries have made substantial progress since Costa visited India in January 2017. Costa traces his origin to Goa.
The economic ties between India and Portugal continue to follow an upward trajectory. Bilateral trade has grown 17% in 2016. And, the foreign direct investment from Portugal to India, though small, has doubled during 2016-17.
