MAH CET 2021 Exam Analysis: The State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra conducted the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MAH CET) day 1 exam. The first slot of CET-2021 was conducted between 9 to 11:30 am today on 16th September. This year, as per the reviews of the MAH CET MBA exam takers and experts, in terms of the level of difficulty, the test was much easier as compared to the previous 4 to 5 years. The test layout was also different from the last year. There were a total of 200 questions. However, this time the question paper was not divided into different sections with separate tabs for each. 

For the last five years, the exam has had different sections. The questions from different sections were mixed as was the case before 2016. This was a major surprise in CET-2021 for the candidates. Also, this year, the buttons such as mark for review etc appeared at the bottom of the screen. MAH CET 2021 Exam Analysis - Overall 

Comparing to 2020, the first slot of MAH CET was easier than 2020. As usual, CET 2021 consisted of 200 questions to be attempted in 150 minutes. Since there is no Negative Marking in CET, candidates are expected to attempt all 200  questions. As per experts, good attempts refers to the number of serious attempts and excludes the randomly marked answers.

MAH CET 2021 Exam Analysis - Verbal Ability/Reading Comprehension (50 questions) 

As per the exam analysis, Verbal Ability/Reading Comprehension (VARC) had 45 to 50 questions in which 30 questions were from VA whereas around 15 questions were from RC. Overall, the VARC was easier than in the previous year. The number of questions in reading comprehension was roughly the same as last year. There were four passages instead of the usual two. The passages were quite challenging followed by mostly inference-based questions.

In VA section, there were around 6 to 8 questions from the Grammar section (spot-the-error format - a statement was divided into 4 parts and the part carrying an error had to be marked as the answer). There were 2 jumbled paragraph questions. However, the format was slightly different. Each set of statements had just one question to be answered, unlike last year when 4 to 5 questions had to be answered from a single set of statements. This time, the majority of questions were from vocabulary in a format with 4 words were provided and one had to identify two words that were either similar or opposite in meaning. Most of the VA questions were easy and could be answered quickly with high accuracy.

This year, there were about 50 questions from Quantitative Aptitude in the first slot of CET. However, there were no questions on Data Interpretation. Similarly, a major deviation from recent years was that there were no questions on Quantitative Comparison, Approximations and Data Sufficiency. The level of difficulty of the questions in Quantitative Aptitude was easier as compared to last few years.

This time the Quantitative Aptitude has many questions on Arithmetic. There were about 25 questions on Arithmetic and all the subtopics in Arithmetic (such as Time-Speed-Distance, Averages, Ratio-Proportion, Time & Work, Mixtures & Allegations, Percentages, Simple and Compound Interest).  Other topics on which questions were asked on Quantitative Aptitude were from Numbers, Geometry (questions from mensuration and circles), Modern Mathematics (Logarithms, Probability, AP-GP) and Algebra. In addition to these, there were 5 standalone questions on the number series.

This year, overall difficulty of the questions on Logical Reasoning was easy to moderate. This section was dominated by questions from non-verbal reasoning. There were about 50 to 55 questions on Non-Verbal Reasoning and 20 questions on Verbal Reasoning. Out of the 55 questions on Non-Verbal Reasoning, 40 questions were set based (8 sets of 5 questions each) and there were 15 standalone questions. This time, there were no questions on Sequential Output or Selection Criteria. Out of the 8 sets, four sets were on arrangements. Two sets were on matrix arrangement while one set was on the linear arrangement, combined with family relations. One set was based on only family relations. 

The 15 standalone questions on non-verbal reasoning were on different topics such as directions, letter, coding and puzzles. In Verbal Reasoning, there were around 19 to 20 questions based on, Cause-Effect reasoning, Assertion - Reason, Strengthen/Weaken the Argument, Analogies and Syllogisms. The rest of the verbal reasoning questions were in the easy to
moderate difficulty range.

MAH CET 2021 Exam Analysis - Abstract Reasoning

There were about 25 questions on Abstract Reasoning. There were questions on series completion, analogies and odd man out like in recent years. Additionally, questions on paper folding made a comeback to CET after several years. There was one question that combined multiple odd ones out questions. That was somewhat complex but all other questions were rather easy.

MAH CET 2018 Exam Analysis

MAH-CET 2018 exam was held on March 10 and 11, 2018 in a two-day window. The Exam was conducted online over duration of 150 minutes. MAH CET exam 2018 had 200 questions that were multiple choice questions in nature. Each question carried 1 mark. There was no negative marking for an incorrect answer. Each question had five options candidates had to pick the right option.

Day 1

Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension

According to the MAH CET Exam Analysis 2018, this section was moderate yet full with surprise elements. The para jumble questions were in different pattern; questions on grammatical errors were easy. There were unique questions on vocabulary.

Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation

Candidates found this section tough compared to previous year.  Majority of the questions were based on Arithmetic. The questions in this section were tricky and were based on calculations. There were four sets in Data Interpretation section, of these two were easy, one was moderate and the other was based on intensive calculation. Anyone who attempted above 35 correct questions with accuracy could score good marks.

Logical Reasoning

Of all the four sections in the MAH CET 2018 exam, Logical Reasoning section was the toughest. The section was dominated by arrangements questions followed by critical reasoning topic that had 15 questions. Many found analytical puzzles questions difficult. Many questions were based on figures and diagrams, Statement & Conclusions, Statement & Course of Action among others. Candidates also attempted basic questions on Blood Relations, Coding and decoding and directions.

Abstract Reasoning

The Abstract Reasoning section was the easiest section for students on the exam day. There was nothing new in this section; questions were standard. There were 13 questions on Analogies and 12 questions on Series. Anyone with 20 right answers could score well in the section.

Overall the difficulty level of MAH CET 2018 Exam was moderate. Also, there were no technical glitches in the computer-based test. The MAH CET 2018 result was announced on March 19, 2018. Candidates will then be able to download their scorecard from the official website.
