XAT 2018 Exam paper analysis is here. Take a look at the sectional analysis of the paper and find out the level of difficulty expected in XAT 2019.

Xavier School of Management (XLRI) Jamshedpur will conduct XLRI 2019 on January 06 (i.e. the 1st Sunday of January 2019) across 47 test cities in India and 2 cities abroad. This year the exam will be held in single session from 10AM to 1.35PM in online mode.

So before you start preparing for the upcoming XAT Exam, take a look at the difficulty level being faced by XAT 2018 exam takers. The exam analysis will give you a reality check regarding the preparation strategy which you must adopt to score a good percentile in the exam.

As per the reviews of the XAT 2018 exam takers, the questions paper was divided in five sections. This year, XAT exam has 98 questions to test the aptitude of the aspirants. Technical glitches were also reported this year. One of the exam centres, i.e. BM Group of Institutions at Farukhnagar Gurgaon did not conduct the exam due to technical glitches. Candidates were allowed to submit test paper after 30 minutes of the test commencement time although they were not allowed to leave the examination hall.

It was the first time that XLRI conducted XAT exam through online mode. XAT exam made it mandatory for the candidates to submit the essay writing question too through online mode.

XAT Exam: Sectional analysis of the paper

All questions carry equal marks in the exam. 1 mark was rewarded for each correct answer for MCQs and 3 marks for essay writing. Out of 98 questions in the exam, 25 questions from the GK section were exempted from negative marking. XAT 2018: Key changes in the exam pattern and no. of questions

Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning Section

With 24 MCQ in this section, it was a moderately difficult section and has a few questions that were difficult to answer. Reading comprehension and verbal ability had 20 questions and rest 4 questions were from logical reasoning section. A decent attempt of 12-16 questions can help an aspirant fetch score of 7 in this section.

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation

XAT exam had 27 questions in this section. Quant was moderately difficult this year. Questions hailed form arithmetic, geometry, coordinate geometry, mensuration, number system. Many aspirants found this section manageable. A decent attempt of 18-20 questions can get you a score of no less than 11 to 12 marks in the exam.

Decision Making

Decision Making section comprised of 21 questions. This year it was a very tricky section and it cannot be commented if the section was moderately or highly difficult. But yes, it was indeed time consuming. The caselets in this section were too tricky to manage within the given time. A few candidates couldn’t manage to solve some of them. If you have attempted 10-12 questions with accuracy, then you can expect a score of 7 marks in this section

General Knowledge

This section was a treat to the XAT Exam takers. With 50 per cent questions from the current affairs section, GK was moderately easy to glide through the rest of the exam paper. This section even didn’t invite any negative marking for the aspirants. Whereas a few questions were quite difficult to answer!

Essay Writing

In the essay writing, all the aspirants were required to write on the topic “Ethical Practices and Sustainability: Do they Coexist”. The word limit for completing the essay was 200 words. Candidates will be allotted maximum 3 marks for writing a precise and impressive XAT Essay.
