Who is Samitha Dulan?
Samitha Dulan is a track and field athlete who has recently won a silver medal in the Paralympics 2024.
Born on 10 July 1990, Dulan started his athletic career in 2007 when he was in school. He took up the sport as a hobby. However, he took the sport seriously, training for 28 hours per week. He debuted at the 2018 Sri Lanka Asian Para Games in Indonesia.
Although he was born without any disabilities, due to an impairment in his right leg after a tragic motorbike accident, Dulan took up parasports in 2017. His philosophy is "Nothing is impossible."
Dulan made a new world record of throwing his spear to a distance of 66.49 metres in the F44 men's javelin throw event at the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan. He hopes to inspire others to never give up on their dreams.
Paralympics 2024: Who Won the Gold?
Sumit Antil, an Indian Paralympic javelin thrower, won gold in the F64 category with a throw of 70.59 meters, beating his personal Paralympic Games record of 68.55 meters from Tokyo 2020. Dulan secured the silver medal by throwing his spear in the air at a distance of 67.03 meters. Michal Burian of Australia finished third, throwing 64.89 meters and winning bronze in the F64 category at the Paralympic Games.
