
According to Belfast University Vice-Chancellor Ian Geer, a team from the university will be working on identifying the entrance examinations conducted in India whose scores can be accepted by the University for its Admission Criteria.
The decision was made after the university had in the year announced including the JEE examination scores in its admission criteria for the engineering programme offered at the university. The vice-chancellor while speaking to the media stated that the university is open to accepting the scores of the entrance examination which are credible and attract quality students. He also pointed out that the university has not yet narrowed down on other courses or examinations but a team is working on identifying the potential entrance examinations for their respective courses.
Belfast University Vice-Chancellor was in Delhi earlier this month leading a delegation from the university to engage with the Indian stakeholders along with exploring the potential university and industry partners.
The vice-chancellor also added that the decision of the UK government to ease the visa norms by granting two-year post-study work visas is a positive development for the students and the country. He said that for the past few years the United Kingdom did not have a post-study work visa and the students were to return home soon. The new visa norms, he pointed out will not only allow students to stay longer in the country but also gain the necessary experience in the disciplines they have studied.
Queens University UK currently has over 200 Indian students enrolled in different programmes and has also launched a five-year engagement plan to attract more Indian students. The five-year plan of the UK government also has several outreach programmes along with partners with Indian institutions.
The universities which are a part of the Russell Group of UK research-intensive universities are also organizing a summer school in June next year for the students planning to pursue the management programmes in the UK.
