The union government on 27 September 2017 extended the deadline for obtaining Aadhaar to avail benefits of government schemes and subsidies by three months to 31 December 2017.
Earlier the deadline was 30 September 2017. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in an office memorandum stated that this extension, however, will only apply to those beneficiaries who have not been assigned Aadhaar number or those who have not yet enrolled for Aadhaar.
The extension would cover as many as 135 schemes including free cooking gas to poor women, kerosene and fertiliser subsidy, targeted public distribution system and MGNREGA.
The government had previously made quoting of Aadhaar necessary for availing government benefits and subsidies like those on cooking gas LPG.
Besides this, the order stated that the beneficiaries would be required to enrol for Aadhaar by 31st December and provide their Aadhaar number or enrolment ID. It also said that for those who have not yet enrolled for Aadhaar, the concerned Ministries should facilitate their Aadhaar enrolment through appropriate measures.
