MS Dhoni won United Kingdom’s 2014 Asian award for outstanding achievement in sports

MS Dhoni won the United Kingdom’s 2014 Asian Award for outstanding achievement in Sports.

MS Dhoni, the captain of Indian cricket team on 4 April 2014 won the United Kingdom’s 2014 Asian Award for outstanding achievement in Sports. The award was announced at London’s at The Grosvenor House Hotel.

At present Dhoni is in Bangladesh and will lead the Indian team into the finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2014 against Sri Lanka.

• The CB Series [Commonwealth Bank] of 2007-08
• The Asia Cup 2010
• The ICC World Cup 2011
• The ICC Champions Trophy 2013

Dhoni is widely regarded as one of the greatest finishers in limited over cricket tournament and in 2013 he emerged as the first captain to win all three ICC trophies. Under the Forbes list of highest paid athletes, Dhoni is ranked at the 16th position.

The Asian Business Leader of the Year award for his outstanding contribution to the field of medicine – Dr Cyrus Poonawalla, Chairman of Poonawalla Group which includes Serium Institute of India
The Asian outstanding achievement in Cinema award – Irrfan Khan (he is the Indian actor to star in two films that won the Academy Award for Best Director – 1 Millionaire of 2008 and Life of Pi of 2012).
Asian outstanding achievement award in Science and Technology – Venkatraman “Venki” Ramakrishan (he shared the 2009 Nobel prize in Chemistry with Thomas A Steitz and Ada E Yonauth)
Asian Public Servant of the Year award – Salil Shetty (Secretary General of the Amnesty International)
Outstanding achievement in music award – Norah Jones, the daughter of sitar mestro Ravi Shankar

Other awards included

Founders Award – Ahmed Kathrada (along with Nelson Mandela, he was also imprisoned for 26 years along with Nelson Mandela in South Africa for involvement in the anti-apartheid movement)
MBE (The Fellowship Award) – Jackie Chain
Outstanding achievement in the art and design – Sir David Tang
Outstanding achievement in Television award – Gok Wan
Entrepreneur of the Year Award – Lui Che Woo
