The House Sparrow was on 14 August 2012 declared as state bird of Delhi by the state government. The new status of the bird is likely to help in its conservation. State government announced the decision after launching a campaign Rise for the Sparrows. The campaign is aimed at conserving the species.
The campaign will try to reach out to people across the Indian subcontinent.
