Nepal’s Supreme Court issued a show cause notice to the government over the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly and the announcement of fresh elections (scheduled to take place on 22 November 2012). The bench also called for written clarification from the government within ten days.
The single bench of the Apex court of Justice Tahir Ali Ansari ruled that a special bench should hear the matter as it bore serious constitutional questions and public concern.
The political parties called for fresh elections after they failed to promulgate a new constitution by the 27 May 2012 deadline.
