Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi resigned as Army Chief of Egypt to run for Presidential Elections

Army Chief of Egypt, Al-Sisi resigned from the post to contest in presidential election. He also resigned as the Defence Minister of the Country.

Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, the Army Chief of Egypt resigned on 26 March 2014 to contest in Presidential election. His resignation from the highest post of military came, nine months after toppling Egypt’s first democratically-elected President, Mohammad Morsi.
    
Earlier on 26 March 2014, he also resigned from the post of the Defence Minister by tendering his resignation to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAP).

He led the military coup to overthrew Mohammed Morsi, the then President of Egypt in July 2013. On 27 January 2014, he was promoted to the rank of Field Marshal (the highest rank in the military).

Comment: It seems that Al-Sisi will easily win the Presidential election as people of the country have been demanding him for his candidacy for the post.
