Aseem Trivedi the cartoonist from Mumbai held for sedition

Charged for the acts of insulting the national symbols, the Kanpur based cartoonist Aseem Trivedi was arrested and sent on a remand for seven days by the Bandra Holiday Court, on 9 September 2012. The cartoonist and the supporter of Anna Hazare’s anti corruption campaign, was charged for creation of cartoons against corruption among, which one depicts, wolves sitting with the national emblem instead of lions and a comment Bhrastameva Jayate that replaced Satyameva Jayate.

A Mumbai based lawyer filed a complaint against the cartoonist in December 2012, at Bandra Kurla Police Station under section 124 (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act 66-A (that states, passing of offensive messages via communication channel/services) and the Prevention of Insults to Nation Honour (PINH) Act, Section 2 (imprisonment for disrespect to National Flag, Symbol, Constitution or any other part of National importance).
