Atul Sarpotdar, the leader of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) died on 26 December 2013 after a brief illness. He was of 51. Due to illness he was admitted to Leelavati Hospital in suburban Bandra on 25 December 2013 due to blood sugar-related problems.
He is now survived by his wife and a son. Raj broke away from Shiv Sena to join Raj Thackeray.
Sarpotdar was an old associate of MNS chief Raj Thackeray, when Thackeray was leading Bhartiya Vidyarthi Sena, the student’s wing of Shiv Sena. He was the General Secretary and Chief Coordinator of Marathwada in MNS.
His father Madhukar Sarpotdar, who was the two time MP and close aid of Bal Thackeray, the late chief of Shiv Sena was indicted by the Sri Krishna Commission that probed into the communal riots of Mumbai of 1992-93.
