The Indian Air Force (IAF) celebrated 82nd Air Force Day in New Delhi on 8 October 2014.

Air Force Day started with a grand parade and an air show at Hindon Air Force Station in New Delhi. The parade commenced with spectacular fly past comprising of Mi-17, Mi-25, Mi 35 helicopters and three C-130J Hercules aircrafts.

The fly past also comprised aircrafts like the MIG-21, MIG-29, Sukhoi-30 MKI, Globemaster, Hercules and Mirage 2000 which performed various daring manoeuvres like dolphin, cross over, lower, closer and double crisscross mid-air, mesmerising the audience.

Navy Chief Admiral RK Dhowan, Army chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag and former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar attended the parade. Sachin Tendulkar was conferred with the honorary title of Group Captain in 2010 and was the first person with no aviation background to get the honour.

About Air Force Day

The Air Force Day is observed because Indian Air Force was officially established on 8 October 1932. It was then called Royal Indian Air Force (RIAF). After India became a Republic in January 1950, the prefix Royal was dropped to rename it as Indian Air Force.
