Indian-origin professor Surya Deva appointed UN Adviser on Human Rights and Businesses

After the appointment, Deva will serve as a member of the four-member Working Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises.

Indian-origin law professor, Surya Deva was appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) as an Adviser on human rights and multinationals and businesses.

Deva’s appointment to the position was approved on 24 March 2016 in Geneva by the UNHRC.

After the appointment, Deva will serve as a member of the four-member Working Group on the issue of human rights and transnational corporations and other business enterprises.

Who is Surya Deva?

Surya Deva is an Associate Professor at the School of Law of City University of Hong Kong.

His research interests lie in Business and Human Rights, Corporate Social Responsibility, India-China Constitutional Law and Sustainable Development.

He recently wrote a background paper for India's National Framework on Business and Human Rights.
