Justice (retd) AK Ganguly, the Chairman of West Bengal Human Rights Commission (WBHRC) on 3 January 2014 resigned from the post of the honorary professor of the National University of Juridicial Sciences (NUJS). He has yet not decided to resign as a Chairman of WBHRC and prefers to remain quiet on the issue.
He resigned from NUJS a day after the Union Cabinet gave a nod for a Presidential Reference to the Supreme Court for his removal and a probe into the allegation of sexual misconduct against a law intern. The law intern was a student of NUJS. The proposal that has been sent to the President, Pranab Mukherjee will be sent to the Chief Justice of India by him seeking a probe into the issue. The issue will be probed on three points that has been raised in the reference.
