Justice AK Ganguly resigned as honorary professor of National University of Juridical Sciences

WBHRC chairman Justice Ashok Kumar Ganguly resigned from the post of honorary professor of the National University of Juridical Sciences.

Justice (retd) AK Ganguly, the Chairman of West Bengal Human Rights Commission (WBHRC) on 3 January 2014 resigned from the post of the honorary professor of the National University of Juridicial Sciences (NUJS). He has yet not decided to resign as a Chairman of WBHRC and prefers to remain quiet on the issue.

He resigned from NUJS a day after the Union Cabinet gave a nod for a Presidential Reference to the Supreme Court for his removal and a probe into the allegation of sexual misconduct against a law intern. The law intern was a student of NUJS. The proposal that has been sent to the President, Pranab Mukherjee will be sent to the Chief Justice of India by him seeking a probe into the issue. The issue will be probed on three points that has been raised in the reference.

He resigned as some members of the faculty expressed their reservation about his continuation.
