Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee on 24 June 2015 was appointed as the acting Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. He was the senior-most Judge of the High Court.
He was appointed by the President Pranab Mukherjee as per the powers vested in him under the Article 223 of the Indian Constitution.
He will assume the charge from the date Justice Dhirendra Hiralal Waghela relinquishes the office consequent upon his transfer as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
As per article 223 of the Indian Constitution, the President of India can appoint one of the other judges of a High Court as acting Chief Justice of High Court when the office of Chief Justice of High Court is vacant or when any such Chief Justice is, by reason of absence or otherwise, unable to perform the duties of his office.
