Lok Sabha MP Kapil Krishna Thakur died on 13 October 2014 in Kolkata following a lung failure.

Lok Sabha MP Kapil Krishna Thakur died on 13 October 2014 in Kolkata following a lung failure. He was 73.

He was the elder son of Binapani Debi Thakurani (Baroma), the leader of Matua community.

•    Thakur did his graduation from the University of Calcutta.
•    He was also a member of the Standing Committee on Labour.
•    He won the Indian general election 2014 being an All India Trinamool Congress candidate and became a member of parliament (MP) to the 16th Lok Sabha from Bangaon Lok Sabha constituency in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
•    He had received the prestigious Sri Sri Thakur Harichand-Guruchand prize for his sustained work to uplift the Matuas.
