Ranjit Bhatia, an Olympian long distance runner died on 9 February 2014 in New Delhi. He was 77. He was popularly known as Bhatia Sahib.
He was a famous long and middle distance runner, sports journalist and educationist. He was a Rhodes Scholar and a student at Oxford University. In Rome Olympics which held in 1960, he represented India in 5000 meter race and participated in Marathon race. He was a contemporary of Paan Singh Tomar and Milkha Singh.
He was honored with an Order of British Empire award for his services to the game and his role as a bridge between sports of India and United Kingdom.
