Sardar Singh Named as the Captain of the Asia Cup Hockey Tournament 2013

India, on 11 August 2013 named Sardar Singh as the captain of the 18-member squad in the Asia Cup hockey tournament to be held at Ipoh, Malaysia.

Sardar SinghIndia, on 11 August 2013 named Sardar Singh as the captain of the 18-member squad in the Asia Cup hockey tournament, which is scheduled to take place from 24 August 2013 to 1 September 2013 in Ipoh, Malaysia.

The forwardline of the team does not include Danish Mujtaba, S V Sunil,Gurwinder Singh Chandi and Akashdeep Singh because of their injuries. The inexperienced players have been included instead in the 5-member forwardline, which also has two new players-  Ramandeep Singh and Nikin Thimmaiah.

The three strikers of the team include Nithin Thimmaiah, Mandeep Singh and Malak Singh. Another new entrant in the team includes Defender Amit Rohidas. The mid-fielder S K Uthappa was also included in the team. P R Sreejesh will be the goalkeeper.

The three-day selection trials of the team were held at the SAI Centre in Bangalore from 25 July 2013 to 27 July 2013. The Asia Cup hockey tournament Indian team will leave for Ipoh on 16 August 2013. India will play in the tournament in Pool B.
