The Airport Authority of India on 12 April 2013 commissioned the VOR (VHF Omni Directional Range) equipment at Ludhiana Airport. The technology is used to increase the visibility at the time of landing and take-off by the planes at the airport.
Commissioning of the VOR technology will increase the visibility while landing and take-offs from previous 2.4 kilometers to 5 kilometers.

VOR (VHF Omni Directional Range) is a short-range radio navigation system designed for aircraft that enables the pilot to determine their position and stay on course via radio signals transmitted by a network of fixed ground radio signal, with a receiver unit.
