UPSC 2024: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts one of India's most prestigious examinations, attracting thousands of candidates each year. This year, the UPSC announced the results of 1016 successful candidates on April 16. Among these candidates, several outstanding women are there who not only overcome the challenges of this competitive exam but also make an identifiable impact on society. In the UPSC 2023 examinations, numerous remarkable female candidates emerged, showing exceptional talent, dedication, and leadership. 

In this article, we have discussed the top female who are placed in the list of top 10 successful candidates, namely Donuru Ananya Reddy (AIR 3), Ruhani (AIR 5), Srishti Dabas (AIR 6), Anmol Rathore (AIR 7), Nausheen (AIR 9) and Aishwaryam Prajapati (AIR 10).

Impact on Society on the Female Representation in UPSC

The inclusion of women in the civil service is essential for promoting diversity, gender equality, and inclusive governance. Female representation gives different points of view, fresh ideas, and a balanced approach to policymaking and administration, which significantly contributes to national development.

Donuru Ananya Reddy (AIR 3)

Ananya is the top ranking female on the list released by UPSC. Ananaya chose Anthropology as her optional subject in the main examination. She is 22 years old and cleared this examination on her first attempt. Ananya primarily focuses on self study giving 12-14 hours daily. Ananya is geography graduate from Mirinda House. Many candidates can relate to Ananya's narrative, which emphasises the value of self-belief and a clear sense of purpose in overcoming the challenging environment of civil service exam

Ruhani (AIR 5)

Ruhani, a Gurugram native, scored an incredible AIR 5 in the UPSC, fulfilling her goal of becoming an IAS officer. She joined the Indian Economics Service (IES) after obtaining a BA (Hons) in Economics from St. Stephen's College at Delhi University and a Master's degree from IGNOU. She worked with NITI Ayog for two years. She pursued her dream while undergoing IPS training in Hyderabad. This was her final attempt in the general category, demonstrating her persistence despite earlier scoring AIR 159.

Srishti Dabas (AIR 6)

Srishti Dabas, originally from Ranikhera, North-West Delhi. Her father worked as an Assistant Sub Inspector with the Delhi Police. She completed her B.A. Hons. in Political Science from Indraprastha College for Women, Delhi University, and then earned her M.A. in Political Science from IGNOU. She is currently employed as an RBI Grade B officer and specialises in economics. She prioritises occupations that benefit society, particularly those that help the impoverished. 

Anmol Rathore (AIR 7)

Anmol Rathore, a native of Bhaderwah in Jammu and Kashmir, ranked seventh in the UPSC civil services exams after securing the top ranking in the JKAS exams the previous year. She completed her LLB from Gujarat National Law University in Gandhinagar. Her father works at JK Bank Limited, and she has been diligently preparing for civil service since 2021, when she made her first attempt. Rathore's accomplishment highlights her perseverance and commitment to public service, as she came from a remote village and rose to extraordinary heights in her academic and professional careers.

Nausheen (AIR 9)

Nausheen is originally from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, and graduated from Khalsa College at Delhi University. Her father works as a director at Prasar Bharti, while her mother is a homemaker. After graduating in 2019, she took the UPSC examinations in 2020 and 2021, passing the prelims and mains but failing the 2022 prelims. She credited her interest in government service to the intellectual environment at Delhi University. In an interview with the Indian Express, she revealed that after enrolling in Jamia Millia Islamia's Residential Coaching Academy, she gained valuable knowledge and a competitive mindset for the exams.

Aishwaryam Prajapati (AIR 10)

Aishwaryam Prajapati, who hails from Uttar Pradesh's Maharajganj district, secured AIR 10 in the UPSC 2023 exam. She cleared the Civil Service exam on her second attempt. She completed her schooling at Rani Laxmi Bai Senior Secondary School and went on to study B.Tech. at NIT Uttarakhand from 2016-20. She worked with L&T for 18 months after finishing her engineering studies. Prajapati emphasised the value of hard work and patience during her journey. She emphasised the need for quality over quantity, mentioning strategic study methods, concise resources, taking short notes, newspapers, and answer writing practice in addition to textbooks.
