World Marathon Challenge–Race for Survival was organised on 16 October 2012 at Laxman Public School in Delhi to raise the issue of malnutrition. 100 children from four schools of Delhi participated in the race to raise concerns of government towards malnutrition urging it to work in the direction of malnutrition eradication.

The marathon was organised by an International Organisation, Save the Children that highlighted the major issue about the death of more than 1.65 million children dying in India due to the cause of malnutrition that includes diarrhoea and pneumonia even before attaining the age of five. The children who ran in the race presented a letter to the Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit urging her to take children survival and nutrition at the top of government agenda.

This was the largest ever organised race for the children worldwide for a social cause. Race for survival also aimed at breaking the world record of Patrick Makau, the famous Kenyan athlete who holds the world record of marathon with a time of 2:03:38 minutes.
