Shanu Lahiri, the renowned painter of Bengal School died on 1 February 2013 following a brief illness at the private hospital in Kolkata. She was 85 years of age. She is survived by daughter Damayanti and son Arnab. She was cremated at the Keoratala Crematorium on 1 February 2013.
About Shanu Lahiri
•Shanu Lahiri was born in the artistic family and studied at Government School of Art and Crafts, Calcutta.
•She also received President’s Gold Medal. She was the first one to receive this honour at her University.
•In 1950, her first solo exhibition was organised.
•In early 1960s she also acclaimed a scholarship to Paris. Thereafter her various exhibitions followed.
•Lahiri was also known for her social contribution. She inspired street children towards painting on walls of Kolkata.
