The Government in the first week of September 2012 asked telecom service providers not to give mobile connection for more than three months to any foreign tourist visiting India. New guidelines issued by Department of Telecom, DoT, recently stated that the proof for a mobile connection to any foreigner will be a passport with a valid visa. DoT ruled that any mobile connection issued to a foreigner should not have a validity beyond the validity of the visa.
The move comes in the wake of instances where mobile connections used by foreigners were misused by some people even after the departure of the foreign nationals from the country.
