Supreme Court granted two weeks time to the centre to take a call on Abu Salem

In case of Abu Salem’s extradition to India, Supreme Court of India granted a two weeks time to the centre to analyse the judgement of Portuguese Court and pass a statement in relation to the gangster on 10 September 2012. The order was passed in reference to the submitted petition to the Supreme Court by the Attorney General G E Vahanwati for granting sometime to translate the  judgement of Portugal’s court from Portuguese to English.

Abu Salem, 44 years in age is an underworld don who has been convicted with the charges of 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai and killing of Gulshan Kumar the Indian music tycoon and many more cases of extortion and killings. He has also been a close associate of Dawood Ibrahim. In 2002, the Azamgarh born was arrested in Lisbon, Portugal by the Interpol. He was handed over to Indian Authority by the Portuguese authority for facing the trial in case of 1993 serial blasts of z , with a guarantee that death penalty will not be pronounced by his name.
