The West Bengal government on 8 September 2012 signed an agreement with a leading IT firm TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) to monitor management of the MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) fund. The agreement will facilitate in plugging wastage and leakage of funds under the scheme in the state. The 100-day employment programme will also get a boost with modernization and transparency. The pilot project of technology enabled monitoring of MGNREGA will start from south 24 Pragana district and gradually will be extended to all other 18 districts of the state.
TCS will provide a 5-year support to the system after implementation. TCS said it would offer extensive experience in e-governance.
