High Level Committee (HLC) on Status of Women headed by Pam Rajput, constituted by former UPA government, was in news in fourth week of July 2015.
The committee came in news after a workshop to discuss its recommendations to generate a working road map to empower women was held in New Delhi on 20 July 2015.
The meeting was called to work out actionable points to empower women on the basis of the report of High Level Committee that is a voluminous report comprising of four parts. The workshop discussed the recommendations under four groups including
• Women and Economy
• Women and Social Empowerment
• Women, Media and Information Technology
• Women and Law and lastly, Institutional Mechanism and Governance
The High Level Committee on Status of Women presented its first copy of the Preliminary Report to the Minister for Women and Child Development, Krishna Tirath on 3 February 2015.
It identified Violence Against Women, Declining Sex Ratio and Economic Disempowerment of Women as three key burning issues which require immediate attention of the nation, and action by the government.
