James Beard Awards 2025 celebrated the best in American Pak Excellence at Lirik Opera House in Chicago on 16 June, in which Windi City is not only playing hosts, but is also emerging as one of the biggest winners of the night. Often referred to as the "Oscar of the Food World", the James Beard Awards recognize the country's gastronomic landscapes, which shape the country's gastronomic scenario, recognizing the restaurants, bars, and chefs forever. This year's incident was particularly important for Chicago, as its three most reputable establishments and chefs were awarded the top national awards - the city's place as a major food capital was confirmed. The awards really showed off how much amazing food Chicago has – everything from creative cocktails to fancy Michelin-starred meals and famous BBQ. It wasn't just about the food itself at the 2025 event; it was also a big celebration of the people and stories behind every dish, with a strong focus on community, culture, and making sure everyone feels included.

Kumiko, the elegant Japanese-inspired cocktail bar, won Outstanding Bar, recognizing Julia Momosé’s artistry and innovation. Chef Noah Sandoval of Oriole was named Best Chef: Great Lakes, celebrating his refined, two-Michelin-star cuisine. Most notably, Lem’s Bar-B-Q, a South Side institution since 1954, earned the America’s Classics award for its legendary rib tips and deep-rooted cultural impact. These wins show that Chicago is a special food city, mixing old traditions with new ideas. This makes it even clearer that Chicago is a top place for great food and interesting food stories in America.

Outstanding Bar - Kumiko

Located in the West Loop, this Japanese-inspired cocktail bar earned the top honor for mixology under the guidance of its chef, owner, Julia Momos.

Best Chef, Great Lakes - Noah Sandoval (Oriol)

Sandowal won the prestigious Regional Chef Award from two Michelin Etoile Oraol. His acceptance speech was given by a surrogate as he focused on personal mental health matters. 

America's Classics - Lem's Bar-B-Q 

Since 1954, a beloved South Side Icon,  Lem's Bar-B-Q, has received the Classics Award of National America - its historical rib tips, charcoal-chikari smoking tradition, and recognized for deep community roots. 

These awards mark a milestone, local hospitality, and heritage for Chicago's cooking.
