Blue Origin is a private space technology company initiative to make the journey to space more accessible and cost-effective. The founder of Blue Origin is Jeff Bezos, who is also the founder of Amazon. It was created in the year 2000. The headquarters of the space orbit is located in Kentucky, Washington, USA. 

The Orbital Reef is a space station created for Blue Origin, still in the development stage. The original aim of Blue Origin was to make the journey to space accessible to people from varied backgrounds, so that in the future, humans could create a life beyond Earth. Currently, it is working closely with NASA and other space mission agencies to help with space exploration. 

The Latest Space Mission 

The latest Blue Origin spaceship was launched on 14th April, 2025 via the New Shepard rocket. This is named after Alan Shepard, who was the first American and the second man to go to space. It had six female crew members as part of its launch, making it the first all-female-led space flight since the year 1963. The duration of this space orbit was 11 minutes. The most prominent member was Katy Perry, the renowned Pop singer, as one of the six crew members. 

Blue Origin took off at 9:30 A.M. ET from Van Horn, Texas. All six of the crew members onboard orbited above the Kármán line. It is an invisible line that acts like a boundary at an altitude of 62 miles. It is also referred to as the edge of space.

The Blue Origin rocket with an all-female crew consists of six women: 

  • Katy Perry: The most prominent name out of the six women is Katy Perry. The Hollywood pop star kissed the ground when landing back on Earth and sang, “What a Wonderful World”.She took a daisy flower with her as a symbol of her daughter named ‘Daisy’. 
  • Lauren Sánchez: Lauren Sánchez is an author and the fiancée of the founder of Amazon and Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos. 
  • Aisha Bowe: Aisha Bowe is a rocket scientist who is now officially the first Bahamian woman to go to space. 
  • Amanda Nguyen: Amanda Nguyen is a civil rights activist., She became the first Vietnamese woman to go to space. 
  • Kerianne Flynn: Kerianne Flynn is an American film producer who works on independent films. 
  • Gayle King: Gayle King is an American TV Personality. 

Some other high-profile celebrities were also present to witness this iconic moment. Oprah Winfrey, a famous Hollywood anchor and talk-show host, was seen teary-eyed. Kris Jenner and her daughter Khloe Kardashian were also in attendance.
