Population density of a region/city/state/country is a measurement of population per unit area or unit volume. There are several factors that affect the population density for example- climate, location, etc. In this article, we are giving the ten most densely populated states in India. Bihar is the most densely populated State while Delhi is the most densely populated Union Territory in India as per Census 2011.

Different methods for calculating the density of population
Density and distribution have distinct connotations but sometimes used for example distribution states the actual pattern of spacing of units of individuals whereas density expresses the ratio between population and land area. The different methods to calculate population density are given below:
• Arithmetic density: The overall number of inhabitants/ land area (calculated in sq. miles or km).
• Urban density: Population peopling a metropolitan region/overall area of a metropolitan region.
• Ecological optimum: Population density which is backed by the natural reserves.
• Physiological density: The overall population/area of productive farming land.
• Agricultural density: The overall agrarian population/area of productive farming land.
• Residential density: Population inhabiting a metropolitan region/area of housing space.
