UN Commission on Human Settlements (UNCHS)

The UN Commission on Human Settlements (UNCHS) was founded in 1978 with an aim to encourage human settlements development socially and environmentally in a way of sustainability and provide an adequate shelter for all.

This is basically programme for providing shelter for all in respective of region, religion and colour biased and to create umbrella concept of global family.

Organisational Structure of the UN Commission on Human Settlements

Governing Council: It is inter-governmental decision-making body which is elected for two years. It formulates the policy guidelines and organisational budget on the basis of high-level governments at ministerial meeting.

Secretariat: It is responsible for execution of decisions taken by the Governing Council. It acts as an axis point for all urban and human settlement issues within the United Nations System. Its headquarter is in Nairobi, Kenya.

Committee of Permanent Representatives: It is composed of ambassadors or foreign envoys of member states accredited to UN- Commission on Human Settlements.

•  World Urban Forum (WUF): It is global conference dedicated to urban issues which was established for the clinical studies of issues like rapid urbanization. It is organised every two years.

• World Urban Campaign (WUC): It is global platform for sharing, learning, initiatives, action and policies related to the sustainable urbanization.
