The Declaration of Independence is drafted by Thomas Jefferson. The freedom of thirteen American colonies from the British rule has been proclaimed by the document. The document also articulates the very fundamental principles of democracy, along with throwing light on the individual rights.

Ratification of Constitution

Creating a stable government post Independence was not an easy task for the United States. The first constitution, the Articles of Confederation, was not up to the mark and proved to be inadequate. This led to the Constitutional Convention of the year 1787. The US Constitution set up a federal system with a strong central government, while safeguarding the individual rights via the Bill of Rights.

The Civil War

This is also one of the most pivotal moments in the history of United States. It was a defining conflict in the history of America. The war was based on issues of national unity, slavery, and the rights of the states. The war led to the abolition of slavery. President Abraham Lincoln Emancipation Proclamation in the year 1863 also came forward. Thus also led to the adoption of the 13th Amendment in the year 1865.

Women's Suffrage Movement

The struggle for the rights of women in the United States touched a milestone with the ratification of the 19th Amendment in the year 1920. This granted women with the essential right to vote. It was in the mid-19th century that the women's suffrage movement began. This movement is marked by years of activism. This included lobbying, protests, and civil disobedience.
The 19th Amendment marked an important step in the direction of gender equality, and empowered women politically.

The Great Depression proved to be a catastrophic economic downturn that started with the crash of the stock market of the year 1929. The crash lasted throughout the 1930s. The crash lasted devastating impacts on the economy of United States. It led to the widespread unemployment, poverty, and huge suffering.
