Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), India, is a premier national Research & Developement (R&D) organization. It contributes to S&T human resource development in form of various grants, fellowship schemes etc through its Human Resource Development Group (HRDG).
UGC is a statutory body of the Government of India established for the coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of university education in India.
The CSIR and UGC provide CSIR/UGC Research Fellowship to eligible candidates for training in methods of research under expert guidance of faculty members / scientists working in University Departments / National Laboratories and Institutions in various fields of Science & Technology.
The fellowships are tenable in Universities / IITs/ Post Graduate Colleges /Government Research Establishments including those of the CSIR, Academy of Scientific & Innovative Research (AcSIR), Research & Development establishments of recognized public or private sector industrial firms and other recognized institutions. Only bonafide Indian citizen residing in India are eligible for the award of Junior Research fellowships.
CSIR-UGC award a certain number of Junior Research Fellowship (JRFs) each year to those who qualify the Joint CSIR-UGC Test for JRFs and Eligibility for Lectureship positions in Indian Universities/Colleges- National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by CSIR twice in a year. Those who qualify for JRF are eligible for Lectureship also, subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria laid down by UGC. Some aspirants besides JRF are declared eligible for Lectureship (NET) category only, based on their performance in the test.
The award of CSIR/UGC Fellowship is for fixed tenure and does not imply any assurance or guarantee for subsequent
employment by CSIR/UGC to the beneficiary. However, candidates qualifying for JRF (NET) receive fellowship either from CSIR or UGC as per their assignment or from the Schemes with which they are associated.
(I) Value of JRF (NET) fellowship, at present, is Rs. 16,000/- per month. The fellowship is governed by terms and conditions of CSIR, UGC or Research Scheme, as applicable.
(ii) The number of fellowships for each subject is limited.
How to Apply:
Candidates seeking admission to the CSIR UGC NET Exam must apply in the prescribed application form.
The Information Bulletin and Application form can be obtained from the notified branches of the Indian Bank from 21 August 2012 till 18 September 2012 by paying Rs 400 in cash (OBC-NC candidates - Rs. 200/- and SC / ST/ PH/ VH candidates - Rs. 100/- )
The information Bulletin and Application Form can also be obtained through post from the Indian Bank, 3/1, West Patel Nagar, New Delhi-110 008 (Ph. No. 011-25888257) by sending a crossed DD for Rs. 400/-, Rs. 200/- or Rs.100/- (as the case may be) drawn in favour of “Indian Bank, West Patel Nagar, New Delhi.”
For this purpose, the candidate should send a request to the Bank with TWO address slips clearly mentioning the address at which the Information Bulletin and Application Form has to be sent by Value Payable Post (V.P.P.) The Bank will entertain the request for forms through post between 21 August 2012 and 10 September 2012.
The candidate should write his/her name, Date of Birth, address, Date of Examination and subject code on the back of the Demand Draft.

To apply Online, candidates are required to download Bank challan Performa from the website and deposit the requisite examination fee in any of the Indian Bank branches throughout the country.
After successfully submitting application online, candidates are required to take a print out of the Application Form, paste his/her recent black & white photograph, put his/her signature at the required space, attach requisite certificates and copy of fee deposited Bank Challan and send it in an envelope super scribed with Subject Code, Centre Code & Medium Code to Sr. Controller of Examination.
Examination fee once paid will neither be adjusted for any other exam nor refunded.
Enclosures required with the application form: One black and white passport size recent and attested copies of documents / certificate mentioned in the prescribed form (App II or III as the case may be). The photo should be pasted on the application form and signed across by the candidate.
The completely filled application form (print out of online form also) along with requisite enclosures should be sent to “the Sr. Controller of Examination, Examination Unit, Human Resource Development Group, CSIR Complex, (Opposite Institute of Hotel Management), Library Avenue, Pusa, New Delhi 110012” only Under Certificate of Posting (U.P.C.) / ordinary post so as to reach the office on or before 24 September, 2012 (01 October, 2012 for those residing in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh Division of J&K State, Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshdweep).
Online applications without hard copy and bank challan receipt / Applications incomplete in any respect will be summarily rejected. Application form received after closing date will not be entertained.
Candidates, in their own interest, are advised to keep a photocopy of both sides of completed application form, Certificate of Posting and three identical copies of the recent passport size photographs which has been affixed on the application form, before submitting the same to the Examination Unit, CSIR.]
More than one application form from a candidate opting different subject(s) will not be accepted in any case.
Candidate should detach the form of ‘Postal Certificate’ from the back-cover page of bulletin and keep it secured with them after getting it signed and stamped from the Post Office from where the Application was dispatched.
