Medical Colleges in Gujarat

These colleges are approved by the Medical Council of India and offer certain specialty courses apart from MBBS and post graduate programs.

• BJ Medical College

Established in 1871, BJ Medical College has got affiliation from the Gujarat University. It is one of the largest medical colleges of India, as it takes in 250 students per year for various medical courses. It is located in Ahmedabad and is considered one of the most prestigious medical colleges of Gujarat. It conducts a centralised pre-medical entrance examination for students wishing to get into any medical college of Gujarat. It constitutes other institutes like College of Physiotherapy, Dental College, Regional Family Planning Centre and College of Nursing.

• Baroda Medical College
It is a renowned medical institute of India which offers various medical courses under the affiliation of the Faculty of Medicine of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. This medical college boasts of different departments of medicine, biochemistry, forensic medicine, social and preventive medicine, physiology, microbiology, cytogenetic laboratory pharmacology, ayurvedic research unit anatomy, blood bank, and pathology. It takes in 180 students for MBBS.

• Surat Government Medical College
Since its inception, this medical college of Surat has gained enough fame to be considered amongst the prominent medical institutes of the state. The courses offered here are recognised by the Medical Council of India and the college is affiliated to the South Gujarat University. It is open only for the local students of Gujarat and conducts an entrance exam to short list students. 

• SBKS Medical Institute and Research Centre
It is an integral part of the very well-known Sumandeep University of Gujarat. Along with MBBS, it offers a number of other post graduate programs too. These include masters in surgery (in different disciplines), masters of medicine (in different disciplines), PG diploma in various fields, MSc medical and other para medical courses (which are usually for a short-term). 

• Smt NHL Municipal Medical College Ahmedabad
Commonly known as NHL Medical College, it was founded in 1963 with just 75 seats. Today it admits 150 students every year for various medical courses. The college is well-equipped with latest technologies to impart state-of-the-art education to its students, thereby producing well-qualified and talented doctors. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is the second of its type to build a medical college of its own.
